AP School Education Spell Bee Programme 2026–27
The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has issued proceedings regarding the implementation of the Spell Bee Programme for the academic year 2026–27. The programme is part of the ongoing curriculum reform initiatives aimed at strengthening English language learning among school students.
As part of the programme, Academic Monitoring Officers (AMOs) have identified teachers from each district to serve as Spell Bee Resource Persons. These teachers will support the planning, implementation, academic monitoring and capacity-building activities related to the Spell Bee Programme.
The proceedings were issued by the Director of School Education, Andhra Pradesh, on 08 September 2026.
Objective of the Spell Bee Programme
The Spell Bee Programme is designed to strengthen students’ English language abilities through structured classroom activities, language enrichment programmes and multi-level competitions.
The major objectives include improving:
- English vocabulary
- Spelling accuracy
- Pronunciation
- Reading fluency
- Communication skills
- Overall English language proficiency
The programme will be implemented across Government, Zilla Parishad, Municipal, Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare, BC Welfare, KGBV and APREIS schools during the academic year 2026–27.
Constitution of Spell Bee Resource Team
According to the proceedings, each Academic Monitoring Officer (AMO) has identified two teachers from every district comprising:
- One Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT)
- One School Assistant (English)
These identified teachers will function as Spell Bee Resource Persons and provide academic support for the programme at various levels.
Eligibility Criteria for Spell Bee Resource Persons
The identified teachers are expected to possess the following qualities and experience:
1. Good command of English
Teachers should have a good command over the English language, including sound vocabulary and proper pronunciation.
2. Interest in innovative teaching
Teachers should demonstrate an interest in innovative and activity-based English language teaching methods.
3. Relevant experience
Experience in conducting language development programmes, competitions or academic activities is desirable.
4. Communication and mentoring skills
Teachers should possess good communication, coordination and mentoring skills to support other teachers and students.
5. Willingness to participate
Selected teachers should be willing to participate in State, District and Mandal-level academic programmes.
Roles and Responsibilities
The selected teachers will function as Spell Bee Resource Persons and undertake several academic responsibilities.
Their major responsibilities include:
- Serving as District-level Resource Persons for Spell Bee implementation.
- Assisting SCERT, District Educational Officers and Academic Monitoring Officers in planning and implementing the programme.
- Facilitating Spell Bee activities at School, Cluster, Mandal, District, Zonal and State levels.
- Supporting orientation programmes and teacher training sessions.
- Assisting in capacity-building activities for teachers.
- Conducting demonstration sessions and mentoring.
- Supporting academic monitoring activities.
- Assisting in the preparation and validation of Spell Bee learning resources.
- Supporting translation of resources wherever required.
- Assisting in the preparation and dissemination of question banks and activity modules.
- Promoting classroom-based vocabulary enrichment and English language development activities throughout the academic year.
Importance of the Spell Bee Programme
The programme is expected to provide students with more opportunities to improve their English vocabulary and spelling skills through engaging academic activities.
The involvement of trained resource persons at different administrative and academic levels can also help schools conduct Spell Bee activities in a structured manner.
By combining classroom-based vocabulary activities with competitions and mentoring, the programme aims to make English language learning more interactive and effective.
Instructions to District Educational Officers
The proceedings direct all District Educational Officers to take immediate necessary action regarding the identified resource persons.
The concerned officials are also required to communicate the necessary information to the identified teachers and facilitate further implementation of the Spell Bee Programme.

The AP School Education Spell Bee Programme 2026–27 is an important initiative for strengthening English language learning among school students.
